Just when we thought we knew everything about him (thanks to history class, strolls through Versailles, and various portraits), there was still something we knew nothing about – the sound of this voice.
Just imagine that the charm of this king - a promising source of his charisma and the instrument with which he transformed France- remained obscure to us for more than 300 years.
Fortunately, details on his health and physical characteristics -scrupulously preserved throughout the years- have allowed a team of scientists, a company called Voxygen, and Google AI to recreate the unique sound of the Sun King’s spoken voice.
And to the benefit of his contemporaries, we staged an #audiencewiththeking on social media – an opportunity to ask the questions that 300 years of history have evoked in the collective imagination. Finally, it was with royal cool and amused spirit that Louis XIV answered his courtiers- thus braving the passage of time.
